Historic Rural Hill is a 501-C3 non profit organization, which receives limited funding from government agencies. In order for us to continue our historic preservation efforts and educational programs to teach future generations about American and Scottish history we are always seeking support from the local and surrounding community through sponsorship and cooperative partnerships. These contributions can be made through financial donations, materials, or company employee volunteer projects.

We have the following sponsorship and cooperative projects:

Historic Structure Preservation
Preservation of historic structures is key to telling the story of American craftsmanship. Many of the structures date as early as the late 1700's to early 1800's. Our buildings are for the public to explore and learn about early American architecture.
However, maintaining them is an ongoing challenge as these structures face the natural elements each day.

Educational Programs
Education is one of the priorities at Rural Hill. Our mission is to educate visitors on the history of American agriculture and the heritage of the Scots and Scots-Irish immigrants who settled and built this part of the country.

Your contributions will go toward assisting us in developing and enhancing our educational programs, which include historical interpretive training, clothing and teaching tools for our costumed interpreters.

Historical Research
Rural Hill is a farm that expands more than 225 years of rich history.

We are continually working to improve our archives of the Davidson family and the Scots and Scots Irish heritage.

Fencing and Landscape Preservation:
Land is probably the most valuable commodity in the world. Rural Hill is one of the few remaining farm sites in the
Mecklenburg County area in which one can stand and look completely around the site and view the pristine rolling hills and pastures of three centuries of farming without the interruption of modern intrusions. In order to maintain this well-preserved appearance and the Davidson farm that once helped build this community, we are in the process of rebuilding our fencing to create the farm image of long ago and to help corral our variety of livestock.

Animals & Livestock
Part of being a farm is maintaining the animals which helped build the farms of
America. Before the invention of the tractor and the combine, farmers used animals to plow the fields and build their homes. Animals need constant care and food to maintain them. Our animals help us educate and interpret Rural Hill. Students and adults alike enjoy seeing such animals as pigs, goats, chickens, horses, and our Highland Cows.

Vegetation and Gardens
The Davidson family was very much involved in planting and preserving the natural beauty of
America. Along with the crops cultivated in the fields, the ladies of the family planted beautiful gardens and fruit trees around the yards of the home. Several of these gardens planted in the mid 1800’s have survived to this day. They continue to add to the splendor of Rural Hill. Gardening tools, fertilizer, and volunteers are always needed to maintain these historic gardens.

Special Events
Rural Hill sponsors several special events throughout the year. These programs are designed to share the culture and heritage of Rural Hill and the Scots and Scots-Irish ancestry of the
Carolina region. This is a great way for corporations to advertise their support for the preservation of Rural Hill as well as market their business and products. Our special events generate audiences between 5,000-20,000 local and out of state visitors.
